ABOUT JOHD HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION

Juba Organization for Humanitarian Development (JOHD) is a Non-Governmental, NonProfit. It is local organization registered under the NGO Co-ordination Board in Somalia.

It was founded in 2021 to serve the needy communities of South Somalia. The community’s development, safety and well-being is the purpose of its existence.

JOHD has been actively engaged in sectors such as:

1. Social awareness against pandemic diseases i.e. COVID-19, droughts, floods.

2. Supporting programs such as good governance, reconciliation & peace building, countering & fighting terrorism, GBV, protection, women empowerment, water sanitation & hygiene.

3. Social protection; protecting widows, disabled, vulnerable women & children as well as empowering women.

4. Improving education, nutrition & health facilities and promoting language art & culture.

5. Socio-economic support such as poultry farming, fishing, bee farming, agro-pastoral, provision vocational trainings & skills.

6. Building schools and shelters and mosques.

Area of Operation

JOHD operates in Somalia and in Jubaland in particular with focus on Lower Jubba and Gedo region districts of Dolow, Garbohaarey, Buurdhuubo, Baardheere, Luuq, Balad-Xaawo, Elwak, Afmadow, Dhoobley, Kismaayo as well as puntaland Hirshabele South west Galmudug and Banadir Region In case JOHD gets support from donors, JOHD believes it will cover the above-mentioned areas of focus, it will work on humanitarian needs in the regions of Lower Juba and Gedo districts

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES OF JOHD ORGANIZATION

Mission and Objectives of Johod Organization

The Centre’s mission is to address the educational and socio-economic challenges faced by marginalized groups, empowering them through quality education, skill development, and community support programs.

Target Beneficiaries

The Centre primarily serves:

Orphans

Survivors of humanitarian violations, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Children from displaced families Individuals with disabilities Those from low-income households unable to afford educational costs

Achievements

Graduates:

350 students (all girls) have graduated from the Centre’s technical programs since 2021. students (majority girls) 180 graduated in January 2025, 350+180=530 graduates 2021 up to 2025 specializing in:

40 in Tailoring

80 in Beauty Salon Training

5 in Shampoo Making

40 in Tie and Dye

10 in Computer Literacy

5 in Food Cooking

Enrollment Growth:

Enrolled 200 students from marginalized groups in formal education, with numbers increasing daily due to high demand. Programs Offered:

Technical Programs: Tailoring, beauty salon training, tie and dye, shampoo making, food cooking, and computer literacy. Formal Education: Somali, English, Math, Science, Arabic, and Social Studies.

Needs:

Feeding programs to support students during learning. Cash relief for the most vulnerable families. Challenges Despite its significant impact, the Centre faces critical challenges:

Infrastructure:

Operates in rented premises, with no permanent land or buildings.

Teacher Compensation:

Relies on the voluntary efforts of 13 teachers (9 technical instructors and 4 formal education teachers) who are not compensated.

Resource Limitations:

Insufficient tools, equipment, and materials for training programs.

Support for Graduates:

Graduates lack access to start-up tools and investment to apply their skills effectively.

Investment Needs To address these challenges and sustain its impact, the Centre requires:

Infrastructure Development:

Land acquisition and construction of permanent classrooms, workshops, and feeding facilities. Teacher Salaries:

Funding to provide salaries for teachers to sustain their dedication and expertise. Support for Students:

Start of feeding programs to ensure students remain focused on learning.

Cash relief for vulnerable families to ease financial burdens.

Training Equipment and Materials:

Provision of adequate resources for technical programs. Graduate Support:

Start-up tools and investment for graduates to apply their skills, such as:

Tailoring kits for 40 graduates Beauty salon equipment for 80 graduates Shampoo production materials for 5 graduates Tie and dye supplies for 40 graduates Computers and accessories for 10 graduates Cooking tools for 5 graduates Capacity Building:

Training workshops for teachers and staff to improve educational delivery.

Life skills and entrepreneurship training for students to maximize their potential.

Conclusion

Sayd Omar Technical Vocational Centre has become a cornerstone for transforming lives through education and skills training. With 350 past graduates, 180 graduates in 2025, that makes the total graduates 530 and increasing enrollment numbers, the Centre continues to meet the needs of marginalized groups.

Recommendations

To sustain and expand the Centre’s impact, we appeal to stakeholders, donors, and government bodies to:

Provide financial support for infrastructure, feeding programs, and teacher salaries.

Invest in start-up tools and resources for graduates to enable them to establish sustainable livelihoods.

Fund capacity-building initiatives for staff and students.

Support cash relief programs for the most vulnerable families.

With the right support, Sayd Omar Technical Vocational Centre can continue empowering individuals and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the community.
